The challenge was isolated UX work within different teams. Despite aiming for the same company goals, there was limited overall visibility of UX activities. I aimed to bridge this gap by adding more useful activities into our bi-weekly UX meeting to learn together and share best practices.
Gaining Insight into Cross-Functional Work: The workshop provided a platform for UX designers to delve into the ongoing work across various cross-functional teams. This ensured that design decisions remained closely aligned with overarching user journeys and the broader value chain.
Showcasing Daily Work and Soliciting Feedback: UX designers used this forum to showcase their day-to-day work, actively seeking feedback and engaging in discussions with their peers. It was an opportunity to address questions and overcome challenges that surfaced during their daily tasks.
Keeping Abreast of UX Trends and Best Practices: We regularly introduced and discussed both established and emerging UX practices, tools, and best practices. This commitment to continuous learning ensured that the entire team remained current with industry trends and the latest methodologies.
Hotjar Review Sessions: We revisited and deliberated upon the most impactful findings from Hotjar Review Sessions, considering whether these insights should be transformed into actionable tasks that could enhance our UX designs.
Co-Creation Sessions: In a bid to encourage creative thinking and innovation, we introducedCo-Creation Sessions. These sessions involved pairs of designers collaborating on ideation tasks. Together, they brainstormed, sketched, and outlined potential solutions to design challenges. Following these collaborative efforts, each group would present their ideas to the entire team, sparking valuable peer feedback and refinement of concepts.
This comprehensive approach not only encouraged teamwork but also promoted diverse perspectives within our ideation process. It enriched our problem-solving capabilities and strengthened our ability to deliver user-centric solutions. The Bi-Weekly UX Workshop emerged as a cornerstone of our UX team's success, facilitating collaboration, innovation, and a deeper understanding of our shared UX goals.
Along the way, we gleaned valuable lessons, such as the necessity of effective workshop preparation, the importance of respect and discipline in workshop dynamics, and the significance of maintaining a focused and distraction-free environment. These learnings further enriched our approach to conducting effective workshops and continued to drive improvements within our UX team.
